In 2011, the US Forest Service, Institute of Pacific Island Forestry, the Hawaii Wildfire Management Organization, and the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources at the University of Hawaii at Manoa founded the PFX with four key goals:

  • easier access to information sources;
  • better and more comprehensive information;
  • improved technical assistance; and
  • a more collaborative information transfer environment.


The USDA Forest Service Institute of Pacific Islands Forestry mission: Through research, education, and demonstration, we provide scientific and technical information needed to restore, conserve, and sustain tropical forests and wetlands of the Pacific.


The Hawaii Wildfire Management Organization is dedicated to education, outreach, and technical assistance, project implementation and research focused on wildfire prevention, mitigation, an post-fire recovery in Hawaii and the Pacific.
