The Joint Fire Science Program has just released the Funding Opportunity Notices (FONs) for 2013. Primary Announcement (6 Tasks) include: 1) Climate change and wildfire smoke at regional scale – Vegetation, fuels, fire regimes, and air quality impacts; 2) Health impairment from exposure to fire smoke – Relationships among the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) and industrial health guidelines; 3) Fuels treatment effectiveness– Economics; 4) Fuels treatment effectiveness – Ecosystem restoration; 5) Masticated fuelbeds effects on combustion and fire behavior; and 6) Compatibility of fire, fuels and rehabilitation treatments with threatened and endangered gallinaceous birds.

Members of the California, Nevada, Hawaii Forest Fire Council met on Lanai, where the Pacific Fire Science Consortium presented upcoming goals for the future of wildfire management and information sharing in the pacific.

This position is responsible for the development, management, and oversight of NIFTT training material at the University of Idaho. Duties span teaching, research, outreach, and administration. Duties include 1) Developing, managing, and providing oversight of NIFTT program content, 2) Contribution to the administration of the NIFTT program, and 3) Developing and collaborating on outreach projects with the Wildland Fire Management RD&A, other NIFTT partners and the University of Idaho.
